High Street Vacuums & Electrical - Our Story

In 2003, part way through, Barry had been chatting to a mutual friend of ours, who just happened to own the Godfreys franchise in Shepparton.  Bob and his partner Linda had been owners of the franchise since they started it in November 1995.  They were in their eighth year and decided that they needed a change.

Barry had been running his electrical business for 20 years and had decided that he needed a change…. Bob, also an electrician by trade, chose to take on the jobs that Barry had been doing and Barry, together with myself, would take on the Godfreys franchise….  So, on November 10th, 2003 we took over the Godfreys franchise at 98 High St in Shepparton, a big learning curve…

We had lots to learn, there are thousands of vacuums in the marketplace… sales, repairs, spare parts… employing staff.  Then there are the franchise rules and regulations, computers and point of sale programs.  Along with the front and back doors, came Jim, who was employed as the main repair person.   Eighteen months later, Jim needed to leave our employ, due to a health concern.  In steps my youngest son Tim, who was in between jobs at the time.  His plan was to help us out with the repairs for a couple of months.  That time turned into a couple of years or so.

We arrived at 2010 and decided that we had had enough of the whole franchise restrictions that were being placed on us (the Godfreys model had changed due to the family selling to a couple of equity companies and being floated on the stock market).  So, on the 20th of September 2010, we de-branded from that system and became High Street Vacuums & Electrical.  We remained at 98 High Street until January 31st 2014, when we moved to 134 High Street… just 100 meters east along the same block!

Now that we are in our 15th year, Tim is still in our employ, and is our main repair person, he also assists with sales out the front and many other duties that go with our style of business.  During this time, we have seen Tim get married to Lateisha and have 3 beautiful children, Kaileigh, Elizah and Sawyer…  all spend time at the shop… we really do run a family business.  To this point in time, in June 2018, Barry and I have 7 children, 16 grandchildren and one great-grandson, between us.
